Do you get Migraines or Headaches?

Migraines and Headaches are often successfully treated by Kettering Osteopaths. There are many different reasons for patients presenting with headaches. A common complaint is muscular tension at the base of the skull, or mechanical strains to the joints of the neck. Poor work posture in those people who spend long hours at a computer, or behind the wheel of a car whilst driving may also be a factor.

The root causes of headaches are multiple and may include psychological factors such as stress or fatigue, hormonal factors which are often more common in women, physical factors such as postural tension or an injury such as whiplash, or conditions that are set off with changes in pressure, loud noises or bright lights.

Osteopathic treatment can help reduce the occurrence of migraines and headaches. In some cases it can be more effective than the painkillers, which often address the symptoms but not the cause of the problem.

After complete assessment of the patients symptoms a picture is formed and the osteopath can then employ a wide range of techniques to relieve the symptoms and help prevent the problem re-occurring.

Often our practitioners will look to treat the soft tissues in order to release muscle tension and address the boney structures. As well as providing hands on treatment, we can often provide lifestyle advice such as altering posture and changes to work station ergonomics in order to maintain postural balance.
